Supervisory Skills for Clinical Radiologists The Royal College of Radiologists has recently submitted the new Clinical Radiology curriculum to PMETB for approval. In order to document all the relevant information about a trainee's progress, the College has developed, in conjunction with NHS Education Scotland (NES), a radiology specific e-portfolio. Both the new curriculum and e-portfolio will be used in all training schemes from August 2010.
To prepare for this, the RCR, in conjunction with the Education Department at the Royal College of Physicians, will be running a series of informative and interactive ‘Supervisory Skills for Clinical Radiologists’ workshops, which will cover the e-portfolio.
Researched, designed and delivered by a team of experienced medical educationalists and radiologists, this workshop covers the skills and knowledge required by supervisors in Radiology, and provides practical guidance on their role.
By the end of the workshop, delegates will be able to:
- Identify the main components of the new Clinical Radiology Curriculum
- Identify the role, knowledge, skills and behaviours of an effective supervisor
- Make effective links between the curricula and the e-portfolio in ways that will support trainee development
- Access and use the e-portfolio
- Set clear objectives for trainees
- Provide constructive, effective feedback to trainees
- Recognise the importance of reflection as part of appraisal
- Challenge a gap in performance of a trainee
- Identify how the Annual Review of Competence Progression informs development
- Write an effective supervisor’s report
