Leadership skills are a key part of every doctor’s day to day work. Medical leadership competencies are now embedded in specialty training curricula and Educational Supervisors have an important role in guiding the development of trainees as leaders.
Our new interactive one-day workshop has been designed specifically to meet this need, and to enable Educational Supervisors to identify learning opportunities relating to leadership within the everyday clinical context.
The workshop will be delivered by an experienced team of medical educationalists and senior doctors and will provide an opportunity for you to explore the role of leadership in medicine, as well as providing practical advice for developing leadership in your trainees.
The workshop will cover the following:
-
Defining the nature and purpose of leadership
-
Leadership styles - identifying effective leadership strategies for your trainees
-
How to involve your trainees in developing a shared vision of leadership
-
Effective team working – leadership and followership skills
-
Identifying opportunities for trainees to take on leadership roles
This workshop has highlighted the need to focus on leadership skills as well as clinical skills whilst supervising trainees
It will make me think and support my trainees to develop their leadership skills
